Griswold Cast Iron

Last Updated on June 7, 2022 by Simply Healthy Family - Team

Griswold cast iron products are popular and valued because they’re some of the finest quality vintage cookware available. The Griswold Manufacturing Company doesn’t exist today so Griswold products are rare, increasing their value.

Griswold Cast Iron History

Griswold Cast Iron History

The Seldon-Griswold Manufacturing Company was established in 1865 in Erie, Pennsylvania, by Matthew Griswold and his two cousins. The company made light hardware products including butt hinges, thimbles, and stovepipe dampeners.

In the 1870s, the Griswold Manufacturing Company began making pots, skillets, waffle irons, and grinding mills. In 1887, Matthew Griswold bought the Seldon family’s interests, and the company was renamed the “Griswold Manufacturing Company.”

The company dominated the cookware manufacturing industry in the US and became well known for its high-quality cast iron products. In the 1940s the company struggled to compete with manufacturers that offered more modern products, and in 1957 the Erie factory closed.

Types of Griswold Cast Iron Cookware

Types of Griswold Cast Iron Cookware

Griswold’s most well-known products are cast iron skillets and pans. The company also sold pots of different sizes, grinding mills, dutch ovens, stovetop waffle irons, roasters, and a gridiron.

The earliest and most successful Griswold cast iron cookware product was the stove-top waffle iron, which was manufactured in the 1930s.

Griswold Logo and Identification

The Griswold cross-shaped logo has changed over the years. Because a particular logo design tells the age of the product, you can determine the value of a Griswold skillet by researching its logo on the internet.

The original Griswold logo had the italicized word “Griswold” at the center of a cross. This logo was seen on products manufactured throughout the 1910s. In the 1920s and 1930s, the writing on the logo was changed to block lettering. In the 1940s, the cross logo became much smaller than the original.

Collectible Griswold Cast Iron in the Kitchen

Griswold Cast Iron collectibles

Griswold cast iron cookware is designed to withstand high temperatures for a long time, so this cookware is more energy-saving than other cookware materials. Griswold products are lighter than cast iron cookware produced today, so they’re more practical and can be used skillfully with one hand.

When the company’s cookware was introduced, kitchens were much smaller than they are now. Griswold pans were deeper than the pans of today, allowing people to use their Griswold products as frying pans and cooking pots. The pans were safe for use over a variety of heat sources, including on an open flame, an old-fashioned wood stove, and an electric burner.

Cooking food in cast iron Griswold cookware improves the taste of the dish by providing a dry, even heat that sears and caramelizes foods quickly and completely.

The company’s cast iron cookware is still highly valued by chefs for its ease of use and cooking-enhancing features. The durable design of Griswold cast iron pans enables them to last for decades if properly looked after.

Why Is Rare Vintage Griswold Cast Iron Popular Among Collectors?

Rare Vintage Griswold Cast Iron

Vintage Griswold cast iron cookware is rare, and no new products are being made today. A vintage skillet in excellent condition is still easy to clean and use.

Perhaps the biggest value of Griswold products is that their value will only increase with time. This cast iron is durable and remains in exceptional condition when properly looked after.

Griswold products aren’t designed to be simply admired — most collectors use their pans and skillets for cooking at home.

Iron Griswold Cast Iron Prices

Several factors affect the price of a Griswold skillet. The condition of the pan affects its price. A rusty skillet needs to be restored because the rust may hide faults, like pitting and hairline cracks. Because of these imperfections, rusty skillets have a lower value than those in peak conditions.

The logo on the skillet also determines the cookware price. Skillets that have logos with large block or large slant lettering are generally more expensive than skillets with small block logos. This is because the skillets with small logos don’t have the same desirable old-world character as the original Griswold skillets with large logos.

On eBay, Griswold skillets sell at prices from $30 to $4,500. The most valuable skillets are the earliest family skillets, which sell for more than $1,000 apiece.

Griswold products with a heat ring are generally more collectible and more expensive than products without one because heat rings are found on the earliest skillets. Cracked, warped, scratched, or fire-damaged skillets aren’t as valuable as skillets with no faults. You can find all the information you need and determine the price of a skillet by using a Griswold cast iron price guide.

Key Takeaways

Griswold cast iron kitchenware is highly valued amongst chefs and collectors due to its quality build and durability. The original cast iron skillets, with large logos, are more sought-after. Small-logo skillets were manufactured towards the end of the Griswold Manufacturing Company’s existence and have a lower value. Regardless of age, all Griswold products are equally high-quality and wonderful kitchen tools to add to a cooking enthusiast’s collection.

Cast Iron Skillet

Cast iron cookware is made from steel alloy and carbon. Cast iron skillets are used at very high temperatures necessary for searing and frying meat.

Well-seasoned cast iron skillets become naturally non-stick over time. Cast iron skillets’ excellent heat retention and non-stick surface deliver a fantastic sear on perfectly cooked beef steaks.

Best Cast Iron Skillets

The best cast iron skillets for cooking steaks are those that are heavy enough to hold and distribute heat. A good skillet also has large and functional pour spouts and must have a comfortable handle.

Slightly rounded handles and helper handles allow a natural grip near the base. Having two handles increases maneuverability when lifting the pan off the stovetop or draining hot grease.

Lodge Cast Iron Skillet

Lodge Cast Iron Skillet

The Lodge 12-inch cast iron skillet is made from thick cast iron. While this pan heats slowly, it retains the temperature necessary for searing a steak or a thick cut of meat.

The classic Lodge skillet comes well-seasoned, and quickly releases eggs or baked cornbread.

The Lodge skillet weighs nearly 8 pounds and is heavier than most other cast iron skillets. Maneuvering this skillet takes some muscle.

Stargazer Cast Iron Skillet

Stargazer Cast Iron Skillet

The Stargazer cast iron skillet is factory seasoned and ready to use straight from the box.

This skillet is on the lighter side, measuring 12 inches in diameter and weighing 6.5 pounds.

Although this skillet has excellent heat retention, the forked handle doesn’t heat up as quickly as handles on some other cast iron cookware.

But, while the large handle stays cool long enough to touch, the handle is uncomfortable to hold.

Check Price

Lodge Chef Collection Cast Iron Skillet

Lodge Chef Collection Cast Iron Skillet

The Lodge Chef Collection cast iron skillet is a versatile piece of cookware.

The 12-inch skillet delivers perfectly seared steaks, savory galettes, or eggs that slide right from the pan. At 6.5 pounds, this skillet is easy to maneuver, and the lower sidewalls are ideal for stirring foods.

While ideal for searing, roasting, and sauteing, this skillet isn’t as good for deep-frying because of its shallow design.

Check Price

Victoria Cast Iron Skillet

Victoria Cast Iron Skillet

The Victoria 10-inch cast iron skillet features two large spouts for drip-free pouring.

This cast iron skillet weighs only 5.5 pounds and is easier to maneuver than most other cast iron pans, which are, on average, heavier by 1 or 2 pounds. The Victoria also distributes heat evenly, creating a nice sear even on thick cuts of meat.

On the downside, the long handle makes the skillet feel heavier by throwing off weight distribution.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron Skillet

Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron Skillet

The Le Creuset skillet’s enameled finish acts like a non-stick surface for cooking and browning.

The Le Creuset skillet has grilling grooves that create a grill pattern on steaks and help with low-fat cooking. Unlike most cast iron skillets, this enameled skillet doesn’t need seasoning, and develops a natural patina.

On the flip side, this skillet is challenging to clean because of the raised griddle ridges.

Conclusion

The Lodge 12-inch cast iron skillet is the best among these reviews because it best meets all of the ideal features. The classic Lodge skillet is excellent for searing meat, comes with good factory seasoning, and has a comfortable handle.

How to Pick a Cast Iron Skillet

Pick a Cast Iron Skillet

Several things to consider when looking for a cast iron skillet include how each person plans to wash their skillet, their weight-bearing ability, health, and budget.

Think about whether the skillet will sear meat with or without a grill pattern, if the skillet can be used in preparing cornbread, or frying eggs.

Weight

All cast iron skillets are heavy compared to other cookware, but not all cast iron skillets weigh the same. Heavy cast iron is better for searing meat, but can be hard to maneuver.

Cast iron withstands and maintains extremely high temperatures, and heavier cast iron skillets retain heat better than lighter ones.

Lightweight cast iron skillets lose heat quickly, resulting in a steamed piece of meat, whereas heavy cast iron skillets are better at searing meat.

A lighter skillet is easier to maneuver, whether empty or full of food. Lifting, tilting, and holding a full skillet can be too heavy for some people.

Handles

The handle is one of the most important aspects of a cast iron skillet, as it affects how to hold the pan and whether there is a good grip. An inadequately designed handle makes the skillet feel heavier than it is, and can strain wrists and arms.

Cast iron skillets have different handles. A short handle gives better leverage and grip when taking the pan off the stovetop. Rounded-stick handles are easier to grip near the base, giving better control and maneuverability.

Long handles may distribute the weight of the skillet unevenly, making the pan feel heavier than it actually is. Both short and long handles get very hot, so always wear an oven mitt or use a kitchen towel when handling a hot cast iron skillet.

The best cast iron skillets for steak have a large helper handle on the opposite edge of the pan that’s usually shorter than the regular handle, and that offers extra security when taking the skillet off the stovetop or draining hot oil.

Although small, the helper handle needs to be large enough to grip firmly near the base while wearing a thick oven mitt.

Pouring & Drainage Spout

Most cast iron users cook more than steak in a cast iron skillet, and a large pour spout may be helpful.

Good cast iron pans have functional pour spouts or rolled lips that don’t leak hot grease and make a mess. A large pour spout is helpful for pouring oil or drippings into a bottle or jar.

Shape and Grill Pattern

Cast iron skillets are either round or square, and can feature a smooth or a grill-patterned bottom. Use cast iron skillets with smooth bottoms and sloped sides for searing, shallow-frying, and sautéing.

Cast iron skillet grills with short walls and elevated griddle ridges keep the food lifted from the cooking surface, and give food grill marks.

Choose a cast iron skillet with a grill pattern to mimic the conditions of meat-grilling, but in the comforts of a kitchen.

Enamel Coating

Enameled cast iron cookware has vitreous enamel glaze applied to the surface. Vitreous enamel creates a non-porous finish that protects cast iron, making it resistant to rust.

Enameled cast iron skillets are easier to clean and don’t require seasoning as classic cast iron skillets do.

Cooking in cast iron cookware can add iron to food, which can be problematic for people with excess iron. Enamel coating restricts the leaching of dietary iron into food.

For people looking to limit the amount of iron in their diets, enameled cast iron cookware is a good alternative to plain cast iron.

Enameled cast iron can cook anything that classic cast iron can, and more. Use enameled cast iron instead of classic cast iron to prepare highly acidic foods like tomato sauce, or aromatic foods that contain garlic, since enamel doesn’t take on the flavors like classic cast iron does.

However, an enameled cast iron skillet doesn’t have the non-stick properties of a well-seasoned cast iron skillet, and can’t withstand high temperatures or be used over an open fire like classic cast iron can. Heating an empty enamel-coated cast iron pan can crack or damage the enamel.

Temperature recommendations for using enameled cookware in the oven vary from one brand to the other. To avoid any cracks and damages to the enamel, follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Using Your Cast Iron Skillet

using Cast Iron Skillet

A well-seasoned cast iron skillet is great for everything from searing a steak and baking cornbread, to frying eggs. Cast iron skillets are made from a highly durable alloy of steel and carbon, and can be used on the stove, in the oven, on the grill, and over an open campfire.

After using a cast iron skillet, wash it well in hot water while it’s still warm, using a sponge or a brush to remove stuck, leftover food.

Use a kitchen towel to dry the skillet immediately, and then use a paper towel to spread a drizzle of oil on the entire surface of the skillet.

A cast iron skillet will last a lifetime when properly taken care of.

Best Turkey Fryer For 2023 [Our Reviews and Comparisons]

Last Updated on May 17, 2022 by Simply Healthy Family - Team

best turkey deep fryer

So you want to deep fry a turkey! Like many people, you might be tired of the same roasted bird every holiday. Or maybe you want to fry, steam, and boil outside so that you don’t overheat your kitchen in warm summer months.

Surely deep frying has become a popular way of preparing a turkey. Frying results are a crispy skin with a moist and juicy interior; you won’t have to worry about a dry bird breast with a fryer.

A note of caution: you’re deep frying with a large amount of oil, so safety precautions are necessary. Even if your fryer has an automatic shut off, we recommend staying close by through the entire cooking process. Make sure to purchase a unit that carries CSA certification for safety assurances.

We also recommend a stainless steel pot if you can find one. Be aware that sometimes the pot is sold without the stove. So if you’re starting out, you want to ensure you order a complete kit with the stove and the pot.

For any turkey fryer, we recommend a practice run before the big event so that guests will not go hungry on a special occasion.

There are three main types of turkey fryers:

  • Traditional outdoor fryer
  • Oil-less
  • Indoor fryer

Final Verdict

Our top choice is the Masterbuilt Butterball XL Electric Fryer. This commercial-grade fryer has a large capacity and accommodates a 20-pound bird.

This is the electric model, not the huge backyard unit you might be accustomed to seeing. It uses less oil than the traditional fryer, and it is designed to be used inside.

However, be warned that if you use it inside, your home might smell like deep-fried turkey for awhile. Some people prefer to use this unit in the garage.

One thing we like about the Masterbuilt is that you don’t need propane. Additionally, all the parts are dishwasher safe so clean up is fast and easy.

Other positive aspects of the Masterbuilt include the chrome coated wire basket, the built-in drain valve, and the large capacity.

Masterbuilt’s versatility is also a plus; not only does it fry turkey, wings, ham, and chicken, but it also can be used for a fish boil.

Be aware that the Masterbuilt has a very short cord, and the maker recommends not using an extension cord; you should plan in advance where you will put it.

You can use the Masterbuilt with oil for frying or water for boiling, making it an excellent addition to your kitchen small appliances.

Best Portable Electric Stove For 2023 (Reviews & Comparison)

Last Updated on May 17, 2022 by Simply Healthy Family - Team

You will never know how handy having a portable electric stove in the house is until you really need one. Whether your stove needs repair, you’re having your kitchen renovated, or you are simply searching for the right portable stove for your campervan. Getting the right one can be a massive challenge.

There are plenty of portable electric stoves on the market, some models are really new, snazzy and high tech, while others are simple. You want to consider a number of factors before you invest in an electric stove, but don’t worry, we are here to help.

We have reviewed our top 10 favorite portable electric stoves. We have highlighted both their good and not so good qualities and show you each product’s pros and cons. Before we get into the review portion, let’s delve into what we need to address before making a purchase.

Price Point

Everyone has a different point of view regarding if something is expensive or not. That isn’t to say that the maximum price you are willing to pay for a certain product hasn’t crossed your mind though.

Think about what needs you have to purchase a portable stove. If you need it for everyday use in your apartment, then of course you are going to be willing to part with a few more dollars than someone that just wants their portable electric stove for the occasional campervan trip, be it annually or a few times a year.

Ease of Transportation

The whole point in having a portable electric stove is for it to be just that… portable. Consider how heavy this item is to carry and move around the room or from your house to the car. You want to have a stove that is both compact and light enough for carrying, otherwise you will find a heavy stove to be a real nightmare to take anywhere.

If the stove includes plastic components, you will want to be sure to have a good quality bag or carry case to store it in which will make it easier to transport as well as protect the stove from any damage.

Outdoor Use

A portable stove is typically designed to be suitable for outdoor
occasions such as barbeques and garden parties, as well as bringing it along for camping.

Features

These days, portable electric burners include a world of features that you never knew you needed. Automatic shut off, LED displays, and a beeper that goes off if you take the pan off the stove and you forget to shut off the stove are just a few of the many convenient features included in newer models.

If you are purchasing your portable electric stove for more frequent use, it would be in your best interest to get a burner that can boil, simmer and fry food so pay attention to find such stoves that clearly state these additional features are included.

Materials

There are two main types of stoves; induction stoves and non-induction stoves. Non-induction stoves are more old fashioned in their aesthetics. Their burners typically have extremely durable visible coils that can withstand supporting heavy pots and pans.

Induction stoves are flat and made of either glass or ceramic. These are far more aesthetically pleasing and look great in a modern kitchen with other sleek looking appliances.

The one downside to induction electric stoves is that they are really fragile and will break easily when not being handled with care. Scratches and chips are also a common complaint amongst induction stove owners. While the scratches won’t necessarily stop the stove from working properly, they do collect dirt and look a bit scruffy.

Temperature Settings and Power

Most portable stoves these days can reach very high temperatures, so that won’t really be an issue you will face. The problem with simple electric stoves is that the temperature gauge jumps by 50 or more degrees Fahrenheit with every turn.

What you are looking for is a stove that has about 15 or 20 degrees identification notches between each heating level. This feature will allow you to have better control of getting the desired cooking temperatures during the cooking process.

This might not be an issue for people that use the portable stove now and then. For anyone needing to cook all sorts of different foods on this type of stove will find having a precise temperature gauge will help make life a lot easier.

The power watts can be a little confusing if you have no prior experience with electric cookers. With a single burner portable stove, the product’s features will indicate the available watts for the single burner.

Double burners have different wattage for each burner on the stove. One will be the ‘main’ burner with a high wattage while the other will be a lower wattage. The watts stated on double or triple electric stoves are usually the combined watts for the whole stove.

When cooking from scratch, you will need a stove that provides about 1800 watts. If it has less than that then the stove is more of a buffet burner which is designed to keep food warm or to be used to reheat cooked meals.

What We Like About Cusimax Ceramic Hot Plate Dual Electric Cooktop

When all you have is a small bar set up the kitchen this cooktop will make the area look like a real kitchen. Another plus is that it can be used as a food heater to keep dishes warm.

What We Don’t Like About Cusimax Ceramic Hot Plate Dual Electric Cooktop

The Custimax Electric Cooktop is quite fragile, so if you are looking to take it on multiple trips and move it around a lot it might not last very long. It doesn’t cook like a regular stove which is to be expected. It does take quite a long time to heat up and bring liquids to the boil.

It gets hot really fast, speeding up the cooking preparation time. When you take the pan off the stove and forget to turn off the stove that will prompt a reminder beeper to tell you that the stove is still working. The pan that is included comes with a lid and is good for cooking up most meals.

What We Don’t Like About Rosewill Induction Cooker Cooktop

The power level feature is misleading and the timer is very confusing. It is very small. Having only one stove heater disk is often not enough, even when cooking for one person. It struggles to get past 300 watts before it automatically shuts off.

A Deep Dive Into The KitchenAid KCO275SS Countertop Oven

q? encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B00U0VTNCU&Format= SL450 &ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=shf046 20&language=en USir?t=shf046 20&language=en US&l=li2&o=1&a=B00U0VTNCU
KitchenAid has a brilliant reputation for delivering high-quality electrical kitchen appliances all over the world. They are a reputable American company with over 100 years of experience in the trade, making them one of the leaders in their field.

Digital countertop toaster ovens are very convenient to have in your kitchen. They can be used to make a lot more than just toasting bread and baking pizzas. These days countertop ovens can be just as good as the typical built-in ovens found in the kitchen that cost hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.

Regardless of whether your kitchen includes a built-in full-sized oven or not, there will most certainly come a time where you will need a countertop oven, too. They can solve common oven overcrowding issues when cooking for many dinner guests. Reheat food in a way that keeps its texture and tastes fresh.

This appliance can be used instead of a microwave. Not to mention it is a great back-up during kitchen refurbishments or if something goes wrong with your large oven.

If you are contemplating buying a countertop toaster oven for any of the above reasons then the KitchenAid KCO275SS is a reliable and multifunctional toaster oven to consider. It has had plenty of great publicity, but does it live up to the mark? That is what we are going to find out.

In this review, we will dive into the specifications of the KitchenAid KCO275SS countertop toaster oven and discover all there is to know about the product. We are going to take an in-depth look at its features. Identify what kind of customer it is best suited. What we like and dislike about the product and highlight this product’s pros and cons. By the end of this review, you will be an expert with a clear idea in your mind whether it is suitable for your needs or not.

About the KitchenAid KCO275SS Countertop Toaster Oven

KitchenAid was founded in 1919 by the Hobart Manufacturing Company and they now manufacture almost everything you could possibly need to kit out your kitchen. Their first manufactured product was the H-5 sand mixer and the rest is history.

The KitchenAid KCO275SS countertop toaster oven is a relatively new model on the market, available for purchase since 2015. KitchenAid offers many countertop oven models to choose from today, including the KCO275SS toaster oven (that we will be looking at in this review), the KCO255BM dual countertop convection oven as well as the KCO211BM toaster oven and more. All of the KitchenAid toaster ovens can be used as you would a full-sized oven.

The KCO275SS toaster oven provides nine cooking functions to choose from allowing you to find settings that will suit your every cooking need. This toaster oven bakes, broils, toasts, warms and reheats your food. It will bake bagels, pizzas, cookies, roast dinners, and conveniently cook frozen foods. That sounds like more than enough to me!

Because it is so compact, cleaning the KitchenAid KCO275SS toaster oven is really easy and takes a lot less time than cleaning a conventional oven. It is designed to be used in small apartments that do not have enough room for a conventional oven, in campervans, or use it as a portable oven option.

Who Will Want the KitchenAid KCO275SS Countertop Toaster Oven?

The KitchenAid KCO275SS toaster oven is great for people that do not have the kitchen space for a full-sized oven in their homes. It can also be used as an extra cooking option for when you have a lot of food to cook and not enough oven space for the needed quantities.

You can use this as a portable cooking option for when you go on trips to places that may not offer all the cooking facilities you need. The toaster oven is very easy to use and comes with clear instructions. There are two knobs on the front of the oven, one for choosing the oven setting and the other for setting a timer.

The oven settings are clearly displayed on the knob, and with each turn, the setting can be changed. There are three buttons on the right-hand side of the oven: ‘start’, ‘cancel’, and ‘frozen’ all of which are self-explanatory. As you can see, it is really easy for anyone to use the oven.

For such a long-lasting product, the price is pretty much spot on. This is a product that is not considered ‘cheap’ in any way, for what it does, it may appear to be a little underpriced.

It is significantly cheaper than buying a large oven, and the fact that you can reheat food and make things from scratch does save you from needing both an oven and a microwave. This is an extremely appropriate item for people living in small spaces or those of you that don’t want to throw money on both a microwave and countertop oven.

What We Like About the KitchenAid KCO275SS Countertop Toaster Oven

Firstly, the toaster oven is really attractive and fits in with any kitchen style. It is sleek and black and has a very streamlined shape so that it doesn’t stand out physically or aesthetically in your kitchen.

Baking and cooking smaller foods like cupcakes and small roast dinners are easy with this KitchenAid toaster oven as cooking time will not take any longer than usual. The food cooks evenly. You will not find your food burnt on the outside while raw on the inside, which is a common issue found with many countertop toaster ovens.

There is only one dial for the cooking settings so you don’t need to fuss about trying to work out the right setting for what you are making as it is all clearly labeled there for your convenience. The ‘start’ and ‘stop’ buttons are clearly labeled and within one or two pushes of a button you can turn the oven on and off.

All of the individual features work really well. We especially like the ‘keep warm’ feature to keep your dish warm until you are ready to serve. This is really helpful during dinner parties and family gatherings freeing up to be able to spend more of your precious time with the guests instead of running back and forth from the kitchen heating individual dishes in the microwave.

There is no need to purchase new baking trays, the KitchenAid toaster oven is big enough for regular baking trays and can cook a lot of food in one go. Gone are the days where you have to cook everything separately in a countertop toaster oven taking all day to make just one meal.

The temperature is accurate. The oven doesn’t overheat and automatically turns itself off. Once you have finished cooking the non-stick interior is really easy to clean. Vigorous scrubbing isn’t necessary so the interior won’t get scratched or lose its color for a long time.

If the toasting feature is very important to you, then you would be pleased to know that it gives an even, crisp toast all over the bread. The same goes for making pizzas and lasagnas in the oven. It evenly cooks and gets the food nice and crispy in all the right places.

There are absolutely no problems with using a 12-inch baking pan in the oven. It can be stored in the oven when not in use and is great for traveling as you don’t need to remove any of your regular kitchen cooking appliances.

What We Don’t Like About the KitchenAid KCO275SS Countertop Toaster Oven

Although the oven is very easy to clean, we notice that the door hinge is designed in such a way that it collects crumbs in the very hard to reach places. To remove these crumbs you will need to either vacuum them or use a very small brush to remove the crumbs.

Another design nuisance is that the rack doesn’t pull out. That can make life a little difficult when you are trying to remove cooked food from the back of the oven. The oven is a great size for a portable electric oven, but it is very inconvenient if you are not able to easily remove any food situated near the back of the oven.

While the oven does feature heating at high temperatures and claims to be able to cook just as well as a full-sized oven, that isn’t really the case. Setting the oven to 350 degrees doesn’t necessarily mean that once it reaches that temperature it will be able to maintain it. The oven fluctuates and struggles to stay at a constant temperature during long cooking times.

There is a buzzer that goes off when you set a preheat temperature. On closer examination, the oven has buzzed to indicate it has reached 350 degrees when it has only preheated to about 200 degrees. In order to reach a temperature of 350 degrees, you would need to preheat the oven to 425 degrees. This means you are dealing with a massive temperature par between what the oven indicates and the real temperature of the oven at the moment.

The top and sides of the oven get much hotter than the middle of the oven. You can feel the metal getting very hot during cooking times. When you are making something that takes a while to cook, this isn’t too much of an issue, but for things like toasts and pizzas, it can leave you with dishes that are unevenly baked.

Over time the toaster ovens performance deteriorates when toasting bread and baking, as does the accuracy of the temperature settings. This is experienced more pronouncedly when the oven is used on a daily basis over a long period of time. What Comes With the KitchenAid KCO275SS Countertop Toaster Oven?

The KCO275SS countertop toaster oven comes with a baking pan that is 12 inches in size, saving you time and money getting a tray that is perfect for the oven. The pan can also be used in a full-sized oven and is made of durable, non-stick, long-lasting material.

There is a built-in grill rack in the oven that allows you to use the oven for toasting and grilling. The grill is suitable for grilling fish, meat, and other heat specific food items.

In addition to the grill rack, the toaster oven comes with a metal cooling rack. Use the cooling rack to let things like chicken and beef rest after cooking.

This toaster oven wouldn’t be half as easy to clean if it wasn’t for the removable drip and crumb tray. When fats drip onto the bottom of the oven and go unnoticed they can burn and cause an awful smell in the oven, let alone be a nightmare to clean. Having a removable tray prevents that. This convenient feature allows you to maintain the oven so it performs far longer than other models that lack this feature, without needing to scrub the oven on a daily basis.

The oven is made out of stainless steel which assures its longevity as it will be exposed to moist conditions and various liquids.

The purchase of this product includes a 1-year hassle-free replacement warranty. Of course, you would hope nothing would happen to an item such as this one for well over a year, yet it is still good to have this insurance on hand.

KitchenAid KCO275SS Countertop Toaster Oven Features Overview

With nine cooking options that you can choose from you can have the right settings for the appropriate dishes. This saves a lot of confusion and for when you come to make something new or you are simply in a rush.

Portability would be a great convenience, however, this product weighs almost 20 pounds. So moving it around the kitchen can be difficult. Finding a permanent dedicated and convenient location on the kitchen counter so you can refrain from moving it about unless absolutely vital. Its weight could also hinder your ability to take it easily from place to place if you want to use it on the go.

A 12-inch cooking capacity means you can cook two 12 inch pizzas, six slices of toast, a small roast chicken and plenty more. This is plenty of cooking room for a household of two or three people, or as an extra cooking appliance for a larger family that requires more than one oven as part of their available cooking appliances.

Interior CremaShield coating on the inside of the oven is PTFE and PTFO-free as well as being completely non-stick. Doing a deep clean of the oven is far easier with the CremaShield coating and also prevents the interior from becoming dull and full of scratches.

You can set a timer anywhere between 0 to 120 minutes with this model which accommodates most cooking times.

Buyers Guide FAQs

Q) Can the oven be kept safely on a wooden countertop?
A) There is a 1 ⅛ inch gap between the countertop and the oven. The countertop will heat up if the oven is on for a long time, so I would suggest placing the oven on a glass cutting board instead of directly onto the wooden counter.

Q) How safe is the CremaShield coating on the inside of the oven?
A) CremaShield has been used for years to coat the inside of cooking appliances and is considered 100% safe and free of toxins.

Q) Is the non-stick pan and the drip tray coated in CremaShield too?
A) No, they have a Teflon coating on them. If this concerns you in any way, put aluminum foil on the trays to prevent any direct contact with the food.

Q) Can you purchase a second rack separately?
A) Only sometimes, the additional items that come with the oven are not always sold separately.

Q) Does the oven automatically shut itself off once the timer goes off?
A) No, the timer is a reminder for you to check on the food and to turn the oven off if what you have made is ready to serve.
