How to Cook Toaster Strudel in the Oven

Toaster Strudels are traditionally made in a toaster, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t just as good in the oven. You can cook them in a toaster oven or in a conventional oven and enjoy them for breakfast or as a snack.

About Toaster Strudel

Toaster Strudels are frozen folded pastries filled with frozen fruity jam. They are flat and fit perfectly into a toaster, and they are one of the most popular convenience foods in the United States.

These frozen pastries have been filling our bellies since 1985. Most supermarkets and convenience stores stock Toaster Strudels, so they aren’t hard to find.

How to Cook Toaster Strudel in the Oven

Conventional Oven Method

1. Preheat Your Oven

Preheat the oven to 370 degrees. Do not put the Toaster Strudels in the oven before it has heated up completely.

2. Line a Baking Tray

Line your baking tray with foil or baking paper so that the jam doesn’t spill over onto the pan. Burnt jam is very hard to clean, so this step will save you the time and effort that it takes to clean leakages.

3. Cook Until Golden Brown on Both Sides

Cook the Toaster Strudels for eight to 10 minutes on both sides, or until you see them turning golden and crispy.

4. Leave to cool

I know it is very tempting to dive right into the yummy, crispy, hot Toaster Strudel, but you should wait at least five minutes so that the jam in the middle can cool down.

Toaster Oven Method

1. Preheat the Oven on a High Heat

Set your toaster oven to high and leave it to heat for five minutes. While you are waiting for your oven to reach the right temperature, line a baking tray with foil and lay down your Toaster Strudels.

2. Cook Until Golden and Flakey on Both Sides

Cook the Toaster Strudels for between five to 10 minutes on both sides, or until you see that the pastry has turned golden brown and crispy. The total cooking time will depend on the type of toaster oven you own, so it is best to keep an eye on the color of the pastry and use that as an indicator.

3. Leave to Cool

Let the Toaster Strudels cool down completely and enjoy!

How Long Should I Cook Toaster Strudels For?

Not all ovens or toaster ovens are the same, so as you can imagine, this leads to varying cooking times. Toaster Strudels can take anywhere between five to 12 minutes to cook, so it is always best to determine whether the Toaster Strudel is complete or not by the way it looks.

Signs that My Toaster Strudel is Cooked

Cooked toaster strudels will puff up slightly and turn a sun-kissed golden brown color. Another great indicator that your Toaster Strudel is ready is if you start to see drops of jam seeping out of the sides of the pastry.

How Long Do Toaster Strudels Last?

Frozen Toaster strudels will last at least three months in the freezer and maintain a great flavor and texture up until the three-month mark. You can keep Toaster Strudels in the freezer for longer, especially if the use-by date is for much later, but their texture may not be quite as nice when they are cooked.

Cooked Toaster Strudels will last for a day. The sooner you eat them after toasting them, the nicer they will be, so don’t wait too long!

Thawed toaster strudels should never be re-frozen. Once a Toaster Strudel has thawed, you should cook it immediately. Remember that thawed Toaster Strudels take far less time to cook than frozen Toaster Strudels.

Storing Toaster Strudel

You can refrigerate or freeze Toaster Strudels. If you know that the Toaster Strudels will be consumed within a day, they will be perfectly fine in the refrigerator.

If you suspect that the packet of Toaster Strudels will not be eaten within a day or so of thawing, then you should store them in the freezer to keep them fresh and tasty.

Toaster Strudels must stay frozen until you are ready to cook them. They should never be left out of the freezer for longer than 12 hours. Once cooked, they should be consumed within 48 hours, although it is in the consumer’s best interest to dig in as soon as possible!

2. Flavors

You can find apple cream, cream cheese, raspberry, strawberry, and many more delicious jam-flavored fillings to choose from. Toaster Strudels are not pre-iced and come with an icing that you can add once the breakfast pastry has been baked and cooled.

3. Company

4. Consumption

You should never eat Toaster Strudels raw! Toaster Strudels need to be cooked in an oven or toasted before consumption.
