We pretty much live by the 'smoothies are a necessity of life rule' around here year round, but especially during the summer.  I mean, when your 5 year old daughter puts her little hand on her little hip and says to you as patiently as a 5 year old can "Did you know that we are out of power greens to make smoothies???" You can be pretty sure that smoothies are big deal. 

This smoothie, unlike the other ones that we consume on a daily basis don't contain any "power greens" like baby kale, spinach or chard but what they do have is plain and simple. Good for you, all natural fruits and a 'secret' source (or two) of proteins and vitamins. 


There is no added sugar whatsoever in this smoothie since there is no need for it. Frozen fruit is perfectly sweet all on its own. Protein rich Almond or Cashew milk blended with chopped, frozen bananas adds a thick creaminess and a perfect protein boost. My super secret, favorite occasional smoothie POWER boost, Hemp Milk!!!


Hemp milk has a very high amount of good for you Omega Fatty Acids and other essential minerals like magnesium, calcium, fiber, iron, potassium, niacin and thiamin. Hemp milk also contains 10 essential amino acids, making it a very good vegetarian source of protein!

Secret source of protein number 2 in this fruity smoothie, Chia Seeds. 


Chia seeds were once a staple food of the Aztecs, depended on for its ability to sustain and to give endurance. Actually, you could live off chia almost entirely, because it has all  19 amino acids, with the exception of taurine. 

  • Chia is gluten free
  • It is super high in dietary fibre, making it great for digestion and healing digestion issues.
  • It contains 20% Omega 3 ALA, making it a super food for the brain and heart. Chia has eight times more Omega 3 than salmon!
  • It boasts 20% protein
  • It is high in antioxidants (It has a four times higher ORAC value than blueberries)
  • Chia contains five times more calcium than milk!!!! {Cow milk is not meant to be consumed by humans}
  • Chia contains seven times more vitamin C than oranges!!!

  • It has a positive impact balancing blood glucose levels (making it awesome for diabetics)
  • Chia makes a great egg replacement. Just combine with water to form a gel, and add it to recipes that call for egg. {I do this all the time!!}

You Will Need

1 cup frozen strawberries with 1 cup water
1 cup frozen blueberries with 1 cup water
1 cup frozen, chopped bananas
1 cups hemp milk (or coconut, almond or cashew milk)
2 tablespoons chia seeds
